CAMFED Malawi has been awarded the title of best non-governmental organization (NGO) for girls’ education in Malawi, recognized on Aug. 29, 2025, during the annual NGO Day. Executive Director Susan Silika accepted the award from Dr. Nertha Semphere Mgala, principal secretary for the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare. This accolade highlights CAMFED’s significant contributions to enhancing educational opportunities for girls for the second consecutive year.
At a gala dinner in Mzuzu, officials praised NGOs, including CAMFED, for their roles in various sectors such as health, education, and social protection. Hon. Jean Muonaouza Sendeza, the minister of gender, emphasized NGOs’ importance in reaching underserved communities. In 2024, CAMFED Malawi supported nearly 186,000 girls in their education, with over 37,000 graduates becoming leaders in their communities. This award reflects CAMFED’s strong partnerships with the Ministry of Education and its commitment to sustainable development in Malawi. Susan Silika expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating it motivates the organization to strive for greater impact in the future.
