Patients in a new mental health facility reported that the physical care environment significantly influenced their sense of safety and well-being. The study involved 14 adult patients who participated in a photovoice methodology, capturing images of their surroundings and sharing their experiences through interviews. Analysis revealed three main themes: feeling sheltered, experiencing care and dignity, and being supported by nature. The supportive and biophilic design of the facility helped patients find calmness and comfort, making them more receptive to therapeutic interventions that could speed up their recovery. The findings highlight the importance of incorporating design elements that cater to the holistic needs of patients in mental health care settings.
