Maxime Michel has been appointed executive director of CAMFED Canada, effective Sept. 29, 2025. She brings extensive experience in international development and a leadership style that aligns with CAMFED’s mission to promote equity and impact. The board of CAMFED Canada welcomes her values-driven approach focused on gender justice and accountability. Michel aims to mobilize resources and partnerships to tackle pressing issues in education and workforce transitions for girls and young women in Africa.

In her statement, Michel expressed her admiration for the resilience and leadership of girls and young women, emphasizing her commitment to joining CAMFED’s African-led movement. Angeline Murimirwa, CEO of CAMFED, also welcomed Michel, highlighting her advocacy skills and ability to build effective teams. Michel succeeds Sandra Spence, the outgoing executive director, who dedicated more than 15 years to the education of girls in Africa. The board recognized Spence’s significant contributions to strengthening the CAMFED movement and thanked her for laying the groundwork for the organization’s future endeavors.
