An increase in allergic, autoimmune, and metabolic diseases in recent decades has been linked to heightened exposure to chemicals that can harm the epithelial barrier in infants. This review examines the impact of detergents and disinfectants on the epithelial barrier, which plays a crucial role in protecting the skin, respiratory, and digestive tracts. The findings suggest these common household products may contribute to the development of allergies in children. To mitigate these risks, the article advocates for simple lifestyle changes to reduce infants’ and young children’s exposure to such chemicals.
