This study examines the distribution of paid and unpaid labor among same-sex couples in Italy using data from an online survey of 190 respondents, primarily women. Findings indicate an overall equal division of domestic and childcare responsibilities, consistent with previous research from other countries. Despite differences in paid labor contributions, partners generally share household chores evenly. This contrasts with traditional gender roles observed in different-sex couples in Italy, particularly among parents. Additionally, in instances where childcare responsibilities were unevenly distributed, the burden tended to fall on the respondent, irrespective of their biological relationship to the child. This suggests a deviation from international findings that typically show greater involvement from biological parents in caregiving tasks.
