Andrea Chartock has been appointed by Washington State Department of Commerce Director Joe Nguyễn to lead the Office of Economic Development and Competitiveness. With over 25 years of experience in global economic development across more than 30 countries, Chartock previously worked with the international development company DAI. She expressed enthusiasm for her new role, focusing on creating high-quality jobs, expanding markets for businesses, and promoting equitable economic development throughout Washington.

Chartock’s background includes supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, managing USAID-funded projects, and conducting market assessments for inclusive economic development. Her expertise spans several key industries relevant to Washington, including agriculture, information and communication technology, tourism, and clean technology.

Chartock holds a master’s degree in international policy studies and graduated with honors from Stanford University. In her role, she will oversee various teams responsible for industry sector development, small business assistance, and community support, and will be part of the agency’s Executive Leadership Team. She officially began her position on Nov. 3.
