Workplaces have undergone significant changes over the past 50 years, leading to more precarious job conditions, especially for low-wage workers. This shift complicates the balance between work and family responsibilities. Research shows that precarious work affects families’ ability to manage childcare and family time. A study involving in-depth interviews with 50 low-wage workers explores their experiences navigating work-family dynamics. It focuses on the demands and resources that influence their perceptions of work-family fit and the strategies they employ to address challenges. Findings reveal that despite limited choices, these workers demonstrate agency in managing their circumstances. They skillfully adapt to precarious situations to support their families, though this often requires significant effort and sacrifices.
