A narrative review examines the global effects of physical disabilities on quality of life (QOL), daily activities, and sleep quality. Disabilities can limit daily functions and social engagement, impacting autonomy and well-being. The severity of these disabilities varies among individuals, often leading to increased dependence on caregivers. Sleep disturbances are highlighted as a factor that worsens physical frailty and diminishes QOL, particularly in older adults. The review draws on evidence from global, Asian, and Indian contexts, emphasizing the complex nature of disability and the necessity for thorough assessment tools. It identifies gaps in research regarding the integrated study of disability, activities of daily living (ADL), and sleep quality worldwide. The authors advocate for person-centered strategies and enhanced policy frameworks to improve health outcomes and QOL for individuals with physical disabilities. The review aims to inform rehabilitation practices and policies, particularly for older adults who are especially susceptible to reduced QOL and sleep issues, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
