The Seattle Office of Labor Standards has announced the expiration of temporary COVID-19 ordinances that provided protections for grocery and gig workers during the pandemic. The Grocery Employee Hazard Pay (GEHP) and Gig Worker Protection ordinances have ended, which were established to support these workers facing challenges due to the pandemic. Over the course of these measures, a total of $18,711,472.14 was returned to 81,561 workers in Seattle. The Office of Labor Standards emphasized the importance of these programs in helping workers during a difficult time, but now that the ordinances have expired, the protections will no longer be in effect.
