Army Veteran Jim Williams has transformed his health and life after years of struggle. After serving as a combat medic, Williams faced numerous challenges, including substance abuse and a brief stint in the stockade. Following his discharge, he worked in the food industry, eventually gaining success and stability.

In 2009, a fellow veteran encouraged him to seek VA health benefits, which led to significant changes in his life. Weighing 267 pounds and using a walker at the time, Williams embraced the VA’s Whole Health philosophy, engaging in programs like yoga, Tai Chi, and smoking cessation. He has since lost over 100 pounds, improving his physical and mental health while managing conditions such as PTSD and arthritis.

Williams, who credits his wife Gail for her unwavering support, now dedicates his time to volunteering about 40 hours a week with various organizations, including wheelchair basketball and the Special Olympics. He expresses gratitude for the assistance he received and emphasizes the importance of community support for veterans. Williams encourages other veterans to apply for the health care benefits they have earned, highlighting that it’s never too late to seek help.
