South Bellevue Community Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a week of festivities from Jan. 5-11. The celebration will include free fitness classes, drop-in sports, giveaways, and special activities to honor longtime participants and welcome newcomers. Activities such as jazzercize, pickleball, badminton, and Zumba will be featured. The center opened in 2005 after more than seven years of community involvement and planning, guided by a resident advisory committee formed in 1998. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue has operated the center in partnership with the city since its inception, focusing on providing opportunities for children, youth, and teens. Parks & Community Services Director Michael Shiosaki emphasized the center’s commitment to connection and community. Located at 14509 SE Newport Way next to Eastgate Park, SBCC offers programs for all ages, aiming to build a healthy community. It serves as a gathering place for celebrations, meetings, and events, fostering neighborly connections. As it marks its 20th year, SBCC continues its mission to provide accessible opportunities for recreation, fitness, education, and community celebrations.
