Veterans often face challenges when transitioning to civilian life, feeling isolated after years of military service. Innerworld, a virtual peer support platform, offers a community for Veterans seeking connection and understanding outside traditional VA health care. Currently free for all Veterans, Innerworld provides anonymous support via mobile devices and virtual reality (VR) headsets. In collaboration with the VA, the platform launched a pilot program to distribute VR headsets, enhancing the immersive experience for users.

Veteran Rod Doty, who lost his home to Hurricane Helene, turned to Innerworld for help with alcohol addiction. He found value in both online meetings and the interactive nature of VR. Innerworld hosts over 100 events weekly on various topics, from trauma to ADHD, making it a valuable resource for Veterans and their families. The platform emphasizes safety, with facilitators monitoring sessions and directing those in crisis to appropriate resources. With more than 4,700 VR headsets deployed across the U.S., Innerworld has facilitated over 10,000 Veteran experiences, offering a lifeline to those seeking support during difficult times.
