Councilmember Eddie Lin of Seattle’s District 2 condemned the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. Lin described the incident as a result of a “campaign of terror” by ICE, which he claims operates with the approval of the current administration. He highlighted the impact of ICE’s actions on families and community safety, noting that District 2, Seattle’s most racially diverse area, has seen increased ICE activity that has instilled fear among residents. Lin stated that ICE is unwelcome in Seattle and emphasized the need for all residents to feel safe in their communities, regardless of immigration status. He acknowledged the significant contributions of immigrants and refugees to society and called for efforts to protect these communities from ICE’s actions. Lin pledged to collaborate with Mayor Wilson, City Attorney Evans, and other officials to safeguard residents. He also encouraged community support through Seattle’s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) and partner organizations, which provide resources and assistance for immigrants and refugees.
