VA Deputy Secretary Paul R. Lawrence recently visited the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System to assess the rollout of the new Federal Electronic Health Record Management (FEHRM) system, set for deployment by 2026. During his tour of the Marion and Fort Wayne VA Medical Centers, Lawrence engaged with leadership teams, pharmacy staff, and FEHRM super users to discuss preparations for the transition. The FEHRM aims to provide a single, accurate health record for Veterans, integrating data from the Department of Defense, Coast Guard, and other federal partners. This modernization is expected to improve healthcare delivery, patient care quality, and safety, while enhancing coordination among VA staff. Lawrence’s visits focus on gathering feedback from those directly involved in the implementation process. The FEHRM will connect with over 90% of U.S. hospitals through a joint Health Information Exchange (HIE), enabling timely access to patient data. Full deployment of the FEHRM across all VA medical centers is anticipated by 2031.
