A Long Island Veteran, who served in the Army during the late 1960s, has successfully managed serious health challenges through VA telehealth services. After suffering two strokes at age 47, the Veteran found it increasingly difficult to attend in-person medical appointments. VA’s virtual care options have allowed him to receive most of his care from home, significantly easing the burden of travel. Initially hesitant about technology, he received a tablet from his VA care team, enabling him to connect with healthcare staff through VA Video Connect and the VA Health Chat app. This development has not only simplified his care but also benefited his wife. Additionally, he has participated in virtual chair yoga classes through a partnership with the Veteran’s Yoga Project, reporting improved breathing techniques and overall health. He expresses gratitude for the support and adaptive equipment provided by the VA, which has helped him maintain his independence and activity levels. He credits VA programs for his well-being, emphasizing the positive impact they have had on his life.
