King County Metro is actively recruiting part-time transit operators to enhance bus service across the region. Applications are open until Jan. 23, with no prior experience required. The agency offers around two months of paid training, during which trainees will work towards obtaining a Washington State Commercial Driver License. Initial pay starts at $23.32 per hour, rising to $31.39 after training, and $44.84 within three years. Additionally, new hires can receive a $3,000 bonus.

Metro aims to expand bus service by 400,000 service hours in 2026 and 2027, representing a 10% increase. This growth will focus on more frequent service and connections to new Link light rail stations, as well as the introduction of new RapidRide lines. Currently, Metro employs nearly 2,600 operators, with plans to hire about 375 part-time and 150 full-time operators this year. The agency emphasizes the importance of reliability, customer service, and effective communication for successful transit operators. Major changes to service are anticipated in fall 2026, aligning with the expansion of light rail in various areas.
