The Washington State Department of Commerce has announced 47 awards totaling $208.3 million from state and federal Housing Trust Funds to support the construction and rehabilitation of affordable housing across 19 counties. This funding will create 2,461 units of affordable housing statewide. The awards are part of a competitive process where 47 out of 112 applications were selected for funding, with $204 million allocated for 45 state awards and $4.2 million for two federal awards. The applications came from various organizations, including community-based groups, nonprofits, tribes, and local housing authorities, responding to two funding opportunities released in July 2025. Total funding requests exceeded $538 million, marking a record high. The awarded funds will help develop or preserve affordable housing, prioritizing individuals earning 30% or less of the area median income. Future residents may include seniors, veterans, families with children, and people with disabilities. Opportunities for affordable housing funding are offered multiple times a year through the state’s Multifamily Rental Housing webpage.
