Veterans and their family members will see changes in how they receive IRS Form 1095-B, which indicates health coverage for the year. Due to updates in the Affordable Care Act, the IRS no longer requires this form for federal tax filing, leading the VA to stop mailing it automatically. While the form is not needed for federal taxes, it may still be necessary for state taxes or personal records.
Starting Jan. 31, 2026, Veterans can access the form electronically through their VA.gov accounts. This online method is the quickest way to obtain the form. For those preferring a paper version, requests can be made by calling 877-222-VETS (8387) on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.
Family members enrolled in specific programs can also request Form 1095-B by phone. CHAMPVA enrollees can call 800-733-8387, while those in the Spina Bifida or CWVV programs can reach out to 833-930-0816. By January 2027, family members will have the option to access the form electronically through their own VA.gov accounts. This change does not impact VA health care coverage or benefits.
