King County Regional Homelessness Authority is activating Tier 3 Protocols starting at 5 p.m. on January 22, due to forecasted overnight temperatures below 30°F. This severe weather response will last through January 24, with a potential extension based on weather conditions. Under Tier 3, KCRHA will work with transit partners to ensure access to shelter sites for vulnerable populations, including medically fragile individuals. Emergency warming centers will be available, including libraries, and local city halls may also serve as warming centers or 24/7 emergency shelters. The Westside Neighbors Shelter will increase its cot capacity to 45 people and add an overnight staff member during this period. Once the severe weather advisory concludes, the shelter will revert to its standard winter operations of 35 cots and two staff members. Donations of food and warm clothing are urgently needed in the community. Items can be dropped off at the American Legion Hall located at 3620 SW Alaska St, or through an Amazon wish list.
