Canopy Apartments and the White Center HUB celebrated their grand opening on January 24, 2026, marking a decade-long effort led by Community Roots, the White Center Community Development Association (WCCDA), and Southwest Youth & Family Services. The ceremony featured cultural performances and was attended by local leaders, including Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and King County Executive Girmay Zahilay.
Canopy Apartments introduces 76 affordable units designed for families, serving households with incomes between 30% and 60% of the area median income, which for two-person households ranges from $37,710 to $75,420. This development addresses King County’s critical shortage of deeply affordable housing.
Adjacent to the apartments, the two-story White Center HUB promotes “Hope, Unity, and Belonging.” Operated by WCCDA, the HUB houses various local organizations that provide essential services, including health and youth support. It features amenities like a medical and dental clinic, coffee shop, event hall, and playground.
King County played a vital role in the project by providing funding and transforming the site into a community-focused space. Leaders emphasize that this initiative not only offers affordable housing but also fosters a supportive environment for families to thrive.
