Matthew, who was adopted from South Korea at age 4, faced a tumultuous childhood marked by abuse and instability. After being placed in foster care and adopted by three different families, he found himself on the streets for 15 years following the loss of his low-income housing just days before Christmas. Seeking stability and hope, Matthew returned to the Bread of Life Mission, where he found support and relief from his daily struggles.
He reflects on his challenges with socialization, stating he previously preferred isolation, but has learned to connect with others through his experiences at the Mission. Matthew expresses gratitude for the Mission’s assistance, saying, “I don’t have to worry about food. I don’t have to worry about a place to sleep.” He highlights the misconceptions about homelessness, reminding people that anyone could find themselves in a similar situation. With the help of the Mission, Matthew has gained a sense of stability and hope for the future, transforming his life amidst the difficulties he has faced.
