Seattle-based non-profit Books to Prisoners is one of the country’s largest and oldest prison book projects. Each year, it processes about 14,000 book requests from jails and prisons nationwide and shipped over 35,000 pounds of books in 2025. The organization focuses on social justice and aims to provide educational resources to incarcerated individuals.
From March 2 to April 3, WCSC will partner with Books to Prisoners for a book drive, encouraging community members to donate books. While paperbacks are preferred, all book donations are welcome. However, certain guidelines must be followed: no hardback books, heavy textbooks, or books with mold or water damage. Additionally, books must not contain metal or plastic bindings, nudity, graphic violence, instructions for creating drugs or weapons, or any modifications like stickers or highlighting.
This initiative offers an opportunity for individuals to contribute to a cause that supports education and rehabilitation for those in prison.
