Kenneth Kelly, a former Army geospatial engineer, transitioned out of military service in 2023 after 16 years, including deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seeking a stable home for his family—wife Jerica and their three children—Kenneth learned about Operation Homefront’s Transitional Homes for Veterans (THV) program. This initiative allows veterans within 10 years of discharge to live rent-free in a house for two to three years, helping them save money and establish careers.

After applying, the Kelly family moved into a THV home in Zachary, Louisiana, in July. Kenneth and Jerica are excited about the opportunity to increase their financial literacy and work toward home ownership. The rent-free arrangement enables Jerica to continue her education in criminal justice while Kenneth takes on the role of stay-at-home dad.

Kenneth expressed gratitude for the program, noting it helps families understand the home-buying process, improve credit scores, and reduce debt. Since its launch in 2018, the THV program has supported military families by reducing mortgage costs and helping 45 families transition to home ownership.
