Rashawn Smith, an ASE-certified master mechanic and automotive instructor at Shoreline Community College, is dedicated to student success in the college’s Honda program. His journey began as a student when he struggled to fix his own car, leading him to pursue a career in auto mechanics. Now, he emphasizes high-quality training and strong relationships within the industry, adapting the curriculum to meet students’ needs and learning styles.

Smith integrates paid internships with local dealerships into the program, ensuring that all graduates receive job offers. He proactively addresses financial challenges by providing scholarship resources and support, making the application process manageable for students. His efforts have earned him multiple accolades, including the Honda Challenging Spirit Award and recognition for Shoreline’s Honda program as the top in the country.

Smith values community and teamwork, collaborating with colleagues to support underrepresented student populations. He fosters connections with students even after graduation, encouraging them to return as mentors. His approach creates a supportive culture where students uplift one another, promoting a lasting network of success in the automotive field. Shoreline’s General Service Technician program is open for new students each quarter, and the Honda PACT program accepts students in the fall and winter.
