Join the La Cocina Cooking Class on Feb. 28, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m. at El Centro de la Raza, located at 2524 16th Ave S, Seattle. Led by chef Carmen Cejudo, this hands-on class will teach participants how to make authentic tamales from scratch. Attendees will learn to prepare masa, flavorful fillings, and traditional wrapping techniques using corn husks, while exploring the cultural significance of tamales in Mesoamerican history.
The class will focus on vegetarian and vegan options, including Cheese & Jalapeño, Potato Mole, and Spinach & Mushroom tamales. All supplies and take-home recipes are included. This event also serves as a fundraiser for El Centro de la Raza’s Senior Hub Program, which supports older adults through meals and wellness activities.
