The Duwamish Tribe represents the first people of the Seattle area. Though not federally recognized, the Duwamish Tribe maintains a cultural center, advocates for federal recognition, and preserves the language and traditions of the Duwamish people. The tribe actively engages in community programs and cultural events to promote awareness and education about its heritage.
