The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and the Washington State Department of Commerce have signed a historic memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish government-to-government relations. Signed on Nov. 20 in Seattle by Tribal Chair W. Ron Allen and Commerce Director Joe Nguyễn, the MOU aims to remove administrative barriers, enhance communication, and implement culturally appropriate data privacy and security measures. The Tribe, recognized as a significant employer in Clallam County, is committed to fostering collaboration in areas such as economic development, health care, natural resources, cultural preservation, and the arts. This MOU marks the 12th agreement between the Commerce Department and tribal governments, with plans for additional agreements anticipated in 2026. The collaboration underscores the Tribe’s sovereignty and its contributions to Washington’s history, economy, and culture. Commerce Director Joe Nguyễn expressed appreciation for the Tribe’s enduring presence and influence, emphasizing the commitment to streamline funding processes and strengthen partnerships with tribal nations.
