Mike Flores, a veteran of both the Army and Air Force, reflects on his military journey and the importance of community support for military families. After enlisting in the Army post-9/11, he served in Afghanistan and later transitioned to the Air Force, deploying to Iraq and South America. Following his honorable discharge in 2012, he faced challenges adjusting to civilian life, including financial difficulties. Through his journey, he discovered Operation Homefront, which provides essential support to military families.

Flores attended a recent Holiday Meals for Military® event in Houston, Texas, where 100 families received holiday meals and enjoyed activities such as crafts and pictures with Santa. The event featured a surprise visit from astronaut Randy Bresnik, which delighted Flores’ daughter, Ellie. He values these gatherings for the camaraderie they foster among veterans and their families, emphasizing the importance of showing children that their sacrifices are appreciated. Flores expressed gratitude to Operation Homefront and its donors for helping veterans like him achieve stability and contentment after military service. Since 2010, Operation Homefront has provided over 210,000 holiday meals to military and veteran families.
