A study published in PLoS One reveals that racially minoritized youth with disabilities face significant discrimination and highlights their perspectives on addressing these issues. Researchers conducted in-depth interviews with 20 youth with disabilities, focusing on their recommendations for overcoming various barriers. Key themes identified in the study include the need to tackle obstacles in healthcare, education, employment, and the legal system. Additionally, the youth emphasized the importance of community support, advocacy, and inclusive policies that involve young people in decision-making processes. The findings suggest a pressing need for improved services and resources to create safe environments and enhance the quality of life for youth with disabilities, particularly those with multiple minoritized identities.
