Maggie DeRee, a veteran and dedicated volunteer, has devoted nearly 28,000 hours to the VA over 25 years. She served 20 years in the Army Reserve as a chef and had deployments in Korea and Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. Her passion for art led her to the Veterans Creative Arts Festival, which sparked her commitment to giving back to the veteran community.
DeRee primarily supports the Recreation/Creative Arts department by assisting with events and projects. She has played a significant role in the Monthly Pop-up Veteran Food Pantry, distributing fresh produce to veterans in need. Additionally, she contributed to the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, participating both 20 years ago and recently in Minneapolis.
Known for her resilience, DeRee brings positivity and enthusiasm to her volunteer work, uplifting those around her with humor and spirit. Regardless of challenges, including inclement weather, she remains dedicated to serving veterans, embodying selflessness and commitment to the VA’s mission.
