ELAP announced its annual Pro Bono Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations that significantly contribute to the community’s legal needs.

The winners for 2025 include:

• Community Partner: Bellevue School District, recognized for its leadership and efforts to create a safe environment for students. The district, led by Dr. Aramaki and Dr. Macias Tamez, has partnered with ELAP to host “Know Your Rights” workshops, empowering families with crucial legal knowledge.

• Attorney of the Year: Cameron Ford, a family law attorney who joined ELAP’s clinics in 2022, has dedicated over 80 pro bono hours, demonstrating his commitment to providing legal help to those in need. His compassionate approach has garnered positive feedback from clients.

• Public Official: King County Councilmember Sarah Perry is honored for her advocacy for marginalized voices and her efforts in addressing affordable housing and public safety.

• Community Advocate: Maria Carpena, an Emergency Assistance Case Manager, has worked tirelessly to prevent homelessness by connecting tenants facing eviction with property managers.

• Lifetime Achievement Award: Esperanza “Espy” Borboa, recognized for over 50 years of advocating for systemic equity and justice, has made a lasting impact in both Los Angeles and Seattle.
