The Journal of Neurodevelopmental Disorders has published a special issue for 2025, sponsored by the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (IDDRCs). This issue features peer-reviewed research focused on biomarkers related to intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout life. Notably, it includes an article by Dr. Sara Jane Webb, Director of the Clinical Translational Core for the UW IDDRC. Her research, titled “Face perception, attention, and memory as predictors of social change in autistic children,” utilizes data from a large multisite longitudinal study. The study reveals that greater attention to faces and stronger memory for faces in childhood correlate with better social behaviors and fewer social challenges for autistic children in later years. This research supports IDDRC’s initiative to create objective measures that can enhance translational research and inform future clinical trials.
