VA Deputy Secretary Paul Lawrence, Ph.D., appeared on the weekly “Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) Update” on Dec. 9 to discuss the achievements of the VA’s Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program for 2025 and goals for 2026. Lawrence highlighted the program’s progress, noting the improvements in technology through consistent updates. He emphasized the importance of his site visits, which have shown a positive shift in staff attitudes towards the EHR system. Initially, there was uncertainty about the program, but now employees are more engaged and energized. Lawrence credited the communication and engagement teams for making information more accessible and relevant. He encouraged end users to remain actively involved in the transformation, which he believes will greatly enhance the VA’s ability to deliver high-quality care to Veterans. The Federal EHR Update program aims to keep stakeholders informed about key developments in the EHRM initiative.
