King Conservation District (KCD) has awarded nearly $700,000 to ten Seattle-based nonprofits through its Seattle Community Partnership grant program. This program supports community-led initiatives aimed at improving natural resources for communities affected by environmental and climate inequities. The grants will fund multi-year projects focusing on land stewardship, culturally relevant food production, stormwater pollution prevention, and youth environmental education.
Among the recipients, the Environmental Coalition of South Seattle received $75,000 for a green stormwater infrastructure project at the Vietnamese Cultural Center. The Eritrean Community in Seattle was awarded $75,000 for its Community Garden Initiative focusing on soil health and food justice. Other notable projects include Estelita’s Library’s $50,000 grant for resilience hub planning and Hip Hop is Green’s $74,700 grant for a youth hydroponics program.
Additional funding goes to initiatives like the Hunger Intervention Program’s community food education, the Indigenous Creatives Collective’s urban ecosystem restoration, and the Khmer Community’s friendship garden. The Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association and Wa Na Wari also received support for their respective environmental projects.
