As 2025 ends, King County faces ongoing challenges with homelessness, with approximately 18,000 individuals entering homelessness each year. Despite this, there is a net increase of about 1,500 unsheltered individuals annually, indicating that efforts to prevent and resolve homelessness are having an impact. The King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) has focused on enhancing system coordination and emergency readiness, improving the Coordinated Entry system to connect people with housing resources more efficiently. In response to severe weather, KCRHA initiated a Request for Qualifications to ensure rapid activation of emergency shelters, resulting in four new seasonal shelters in Seattle. Additionally, KCRHA partnered with Bellevue and Redmond to manage severe weather funding in East King County. Financial efficiency has improved with nearly all contract renewals completed and a transition to Salesforce for grants management, enhancing provider support. The new KCRHA Governing Board structure aims to streamline decision-making in the homelessness response system. Looking ahead to 2026, KCRHA will continue to enhance strategies to address unsheltered homelessness and strengthen partnerships across the region to improve outcomes for those in need.
