DESC assists individuals facing homelessness, substance use disorders, and serious mental illness, aiming to enhance their health and well-being through comprehensive services and housing. In 2024, DESC successfully moved 466 people into permanent supportive housing, with a retention rate of 94.6%. The organization opened Bloomside, its first supportive housing location outside Seattle, in Burien and continued development on three additional projects in the Seattle area.
DESC prepared to launch the Opioid Recovery & Care Access (ORCA) Center for overdose stabilization and the Stability Through Access & Resources (STAR) Center, an innovative shelter for vulnerable individuals. In fiscal year 2024, DESC provided services to 6,988 individuals across various programs, including supportive housing and outpatient health services. They operated 1,566 permanent supportive housing apartments and managed scattered-site units, offering case management and rent subsidies.
DESC’s behavioral health crisis response included the Crisis Solutions Center and mobile teams, serving 3,220 community members. The organization also operated two emergency housing sites and three shelters, aiding 939 individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.
