People in Washington can now access same-day help for opioid use disorder through the expanded Telebuprenorphine (Telebupe) Hotline. The Washington State Department of Health is partnering with the University of Washington to make this service available statewide. Residents can call 206-289-0287 for immediate medical treatment via phone or video. The hotline, which began as a pilot program in 2024, allows individuals to speak with trained UW Emergency Physicians who can prescribe buprenorphine, a medication that helps manage opioid withdrawal and supports recovery.

More than 1,400 people have already used the service, which aims to assist those facing challenges like long wait times or limited access to clinics. Callers first connect with a care coordinator for a brief intake before having a telehealth visit with a physician. A prescription is then sent to the caller’s selected pharmacy, and staff follow up within 72 hours to help connect them to long-term care.

The hotline operates daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and is available to anyone aged 13 or older in the state. The service is free and does not bill insurance.
