A new project called the Positive Parent Strategies ECHO is being launched by UW LEND, funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. This initiative aims to support parents and caregivers of children aged 3 to 12 with developmental disabilities. Co-led by Sue Adelman and Dr. Katy Bateman, the project adapts the ECHO Model to foster skill-building and community among families.

Over a 10-week virtual series, participants engage in “All Teach, All Learn” sessions that feature brief lessons on behavioral strategies alongside real family case discussions. Each session includes a 15-minute presentation by experienced providers and a family-led case presentation, promoting collaborative problem-solving. The series emphasizes evidence-based strategies to handle challenging behaviors while fostering a supportive community for families.

Participants receive stipends for completing surveys, and support for language translation ensures accessibility. Benefits include practical strategies for families, real-world experience for trainees, and enhanced community stability. Dr. Bateman highlights the importance of creating a space for families to share experiences, while Adelman focuses on equipping families with usable skills. Sessions run Thursdays from February 26 to April 30, and families can join from anywhere in the U.S.
