Compass Housing Alliance has been dedicated to serving the community for over 105 years, following the vision of its founders, Reverend Otto and Alva Karlstrom. With more than 20 locations from Shoreline to Auburn, the organization provides crucial support in housing, shelter, and emergency needs for those facing homelessness and housing insecurity. Throughout its history, Compass has adapted to societal changes while maintaining core values of dignity, respect, and compassionate service.

Founded in 1920 as the Lutheran Mission Rest and Reading Room, Compass continues to offer essential emergency services, enhanced shelters, and affordable housing to thousands annually. The organization believes that everyone deserves a home, a concept that can seem distant for many of its guests.

The story of the Johnson family exemplifies this mission. After being priced out of their Seattle home, Laura and her two grandchildren found stability in one of Compass’s affordable housing communities. Laura expresses gratitude for the support they receive, stating it offers them safety and a nurturing environment. Compass Housing Alliance remains committed to ensuring that everyone has a place to call home, relying on community support and advocacy to further this goal.
