Boeing employees have funded a new forklift for the SODO Community Market in Seattle through the Employees Community Fund of Boeing (ECF). This fund, one of the largest employee-managed initiatives in the U.S., allows Boeing workers to pool their resources to support local community solutions. The new forklift is enhancing the market’s operations, providing greater efficiency and safety, and ensuring that it remains a welcoming space for shoppers who often face cold and rainy conditions while waiting for the market to open. Laurie, the Institutional Advancement Officer, emphasized that the forklift represents “impact in action,” while Roy McCree, the market manager, noted that everyone is now certified to operate it, allowing for timely openings without delays. By investing in essential infrastructure, Boeing employees and the ECF are playing a crucial role in helping the market serve the community with dignity and care, contributing to the goal of a hunger-free Washington.
