The community’s annual Juneteenth Celebration, held for 24 years, brought together more than 600 attendees at the Rainier Beach Community Center this year. Participants enjoyed performances, delicious food, family activities, and opportunities to connect with local organizations and business owners. Rainier Avenue Radio provided live coverage, featuring interviews that emphasized the significance of community unity. Juneteenth commemorates the history of Black excellence in the U.S., highlighting the profound impact of African American culture on music, fashion, and human rights. This year’s event showcased a variety of performances, including the Dolls & Gents Drill Team, the Double Dutch Divas, and spoken word artists. Sponsors for the event included Seattle Parks and Recreation, King County Public Health, Bellwether Housing, and several local organizations dedicated to community well-being and safety.
