A study published in the African Journal of Reproductive Health investigates psychiatric nurses’ perceptions of the sexuality of individuals with mental disorders. Conducted from January to March 2024, the qualitative research involved in-depth interviews with 31 psychiatric nurses until data saturation was reached. Thematic analysis revealed five main themes: sexual life, factors influencing sexual life, civil rights related to sexuality (such as marriage and parenting), barriers to discussing sexual life (including taboos and misconceptions), and the importance of improving sexual health through education and counseling. Findings indicate that psychiatric nurses often overlook the sexual needs of patients with mental disorders and lack the necessary skills to provide adequate sexual care.
