A study explored the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tPCS) on social functioning in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Conducted at eight autism centers in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the multicenter trial involved 60 participants, with 30 receiving tPCS and 30 in a sham group. Each child completed 10 treatment sessions. Results indicated that the tPCS group experienced significant improvements in social functioning compared to the sham group. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was utilized to assess primary and secondary outcomes post-intervention. While children in the tPCS group showed enhancements in their neuropsychological measures of social functioning, those in the sham group did not exhibit notable changes from pre- to post-intervention. This research suggests that tPCS may have beneficial effects on social functioning in children with ASD.
