A new early intervention service called Nurturing Connections has been launched by the New South Wales State Ministry of Health. This program aims to support families facing high psychosocial vulnerability and complex mental health challenges, such as caregiver trauma, mental illness, substance abuse, and domestic violence. These factors significantly increase the risk of attachment disturbances in children. The evaluation of the Nurturing Connections Program will use a mixed-methods design, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data. Researchers will analyze routine service data, surveys, participant observations, and semi-structured interviews, employing descriptive and inferential techniques for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data. The study has received ethical approval from the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of New South Wales. Findings from the evaluation will be disseminated through published manuscripts, conference presentations, and a final report to funding bodies.
