The LCSNW Santa for Seniors team celebrated the holiday season by participating in the annual Christmas party at Mercy Housing’s New Tacoma Senior Apartments, marking their ninth year in this tradition. Director Susan Nocella and Program Assistant Mackenzie Bray welcomed residents to visit Santa, played by Senior Friends Program Coordinator Pat Jenkins. This year, Santa for Seniors provided 215 gift bags filled with warm essentials like gloves, socks, and blankets. The event, hosted by Service Coordinator Mattye Berry-Evans, fostered community and intergenerational connections, helping to reduce isolation among residents. Berry-Evans emphasized the importance of community, saying the event brings joy and socialization during tough times. Santa for Seniors’ partnership with Mercy Housing extends beyond the holidays, delivering Valentine’s cards, spring gift bags, and fall safety kits throughout the year. They also collaborate with Pierce County Aging and Disability Resources to promote the Falls Prevention Program. This year, Santa for Seniors distributed 11,000 gift bags across 16 counties in Washington and served over 3,500 additional recipients with smaller gifts in several states, including Oregon, Minnesota, and Alaska.
