Many residents in Seattle and King County face difficult choices due to rising costs of housing and basic necessities. In January 2025, eviction filings in King County increased by 66% compared to pre-pandemic levels, with a record high expected for the year. In the hardest-hit neighborhoods, over half of renter families are classified as “rent burdened,” spending more than a third of their income on housing. Factors like inflation, inadequate rental assistance, and a lack of affordable housing contribute to this crisis.

Solid Ground is addressing these issues with support from the Puget Sound Energy (PSE) Foundation, which provides flexible funding to enhance housing stability efforts. Solid Ground’s Tenant Services aim to prevent evictions by educating renters about their rights and helping them resolve conflicts with landlords. Services include a free Voice Message Line, webinars, and in-person workshops, designed to keep families in their homes. Research shows that 14% to 47% of first-time homelessness cases are linked to eviction. With continued support from various funders, Solid Ground is committed to maintaining these essential services to combat homelessness at its source.
